There's 12 hours of non-stop rain expected in some areas!

It’s been a soaking start to the weekend across Southern Ontario, as heavy downpours, strong winds and stormy conditions batter the province. With rainfall and freezing rain warnings in effect across the region, locals have been taking to social media to share photos and videos of Ontario’s massive winter storm and the carnage it’s causing in their hometowns.

For residents of Southern Ontario, particularly those in the GTA, it’s been a day of rain, rain and even more rain.

With heavy downpours covering the province, there are now serious flooding concerns, particularly as the bad weather is showing no signs of easing off.

According to The Weather Network, an estimated total of 40 to 60 millimetres of rainfall could fall by Saturday evening, with more than 12 continuous hours of downpour expected in some areas.

The drizzle that began on Friday morning is expected to gain strength into Saturday afternoon and then overnight, before eventually tapering off on Sunday.

Before then, however, Environment Canada is predicting dangerously high levels of flooding in some areas in the GTA, as well as freezing rain that could last for several hours at a time.

Taking to Twitter using the hashtag #ONstorm, locals have been sharing some shocking photos and videos of the wild winter weather.

One Twitter user shared a concerning picture of the flooding near their home, writing, “Neighbourhood street starting to flood onto sidewalk and we haven't hit noon yet."

While another shared a similar image, adding, “Never seen it like this before!"

A third Ontarian shared several photographs of an almost-overflowing River, explaining, “Hard to see in the photos, but Conestogo River in Drayton is already over the bank."

Several Canadians also took to the social media site to share photos of the rain starting to freeze.

One Twitter user wrote, “Grey highlands freezing rain progress at 1:15pm. Accretion has started with many hours of FR still in the forecast.”

While another added, “Already starting to get some accretion from the freezing rain north of Markdale.”

According to Global News, power outages, fallen trees, and property damage is all possible over the weekend, especially in areas withsignificant rainfall.
