Environment Canada Is Warning Of Flash Flooding Across Ontario Today

Drivers are being warned to exercise caution today.

It seems that the warm spring weather isn't ready to show up just yet. Parts of the province are currently under a special weather statement as heavy rain continues to fall throughout the day. Ontario's weather forecast is calling for massive flash flooding in some areas, which will make road conditions a nightmare.

According to The Weather Network, heavy rain will continue to fall across the province throughout Thursday, with some areas expecting to get up to 60 millimetres.

The downpour is going to be so bad in some areas that several special weather statements have been issued by Environment Canada to warn drivers of "pooling water" on roads and the possibility of localized flooding.

"Special weather statements have been issued for Grey-Bruce as well as Algonquin, Haliburton, Parry Sound-Muskoka, and Burk's Falls-Bayfield Inlet. The expected rainfall could cause pooling water on roads, and caution is advised near creeks and streams," reads a statement by TWN.

Drivers are being cautioned to keep their lights on and allow for a safe following distance as visibility is likely to be reduced throughout the day.

It was reported earlier this week that this rainstorm will be the biggest one of the month.

In fact, Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton stated that the amount of rain that Ontario got this week could surpass the amount of rain that has been seen throughout the rest of the month.

Thankfully, the soggy weather conditions are not forecasted to last.

The storm is expected to come to an end by Friday morning, with sunny like conditions expected for the weekend.

Sunday can see temperatures hit as high as 20 C in the Toronto area, making the first few days of May feel truly like spring.
