Ottawa Police Want Answers After 2 People Were Stabbed Outside Ikea
Local police are searching for answers in the capital city this weekend, after Ottawa’s Ikea stabbing left two men in hospital. Police responded to calls from the Iris Street Ikea late on Friday morning, and attended a scene in which two men had been stabbed. The Ottawa Police Department are now searching for two others who are believed to have been involved in the altercation.
There was a heavy police presence outside the Iris Street Ikea in Ottawa on Friday, after police responded to a violent incident that resulted in two men being stabbed.
While it was initially believed that the two injured men were the only people involved in the altercation, police are now searching for an additional two men, that they believe may have been responsible for the late-morning stabbings.
In a tweet on Friday morning, the official Ottawa Police Twitter account explained, “Officers responded to an altercation in the 2600 block of Iris at 11:50am this morning where two adult men were stabbed. They were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
According to a report from the Ottawa Citizen, one of the men had suffered from multiple stab wounds to his body, while the other came away from the altercation with a single stab wound.
While they were not found to be in a life-threatening condition, it’s believed that the men were left with serious injuries from their stab wounds. They both remain in a stable condition.
In a follow-up tweet on Friday afternoon, Ottawa Police went on to say, “Update: Two other men are considered to be the suspects. They have not been located. The investigation by West Criminal Investigation is ongoing.”
They added, "No further details are available at this time."
IKEA confirmed that an incident did take place outside their Ottawa store, but said it couldn’t comment further because of the police investigation.
“At IKEA, the safety and security of everyone who comes to our stores is of the utmost importance,” the chain said.
The store remained open following the incident. Police were able to redirect shoppers around the crime scene, which was near to the front of the building.
Ottawa Police continue to search for the additional two men who are believed to have been involved in the Friday-morning altercation.
