Ottawa's Spring Weather Forecast Is Here & It's Going To Be Even Colder Than Usual

Expect a lot of rain, too.

If there’s one thing that Ottawans know not to get excited about, it’s spring. More often than not, the season is snowy, wet and really cold, and you just never know what you’re going to wake up to every day. Fortunately, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has released their Ottawa spring weather predictions, but I’ll be honest with you ... It’s not looking good.

As Daylight Savings approaches at the weekend, this can only mean one thing. Spring is officially on the horizon in Canada!

While this does sound like good news, residents of Ottawa know better than to assume that winter must be over.

In fact, according to The Old Farmer’s Almanac spring weather report, it’s going to feel like the cold season for quite a while in the capital city.

Although we may have the occasional sunny day here and there to give us a dash of hope, March and April are looking snowy, damp and much colder and rainier than usual.

With snow predicted in some regions until mid-April, it looks like winter’s going to be sticking around for a little longer than we’d all like. Sigh.

If that wasn't enough, residents of the southern Quebec region can expect up to 20mm more rain than usual in March, making for a very wet start to the spring.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac report encompasses several regions, including Belleville, Kanata, Ottawa and Pembroke, as well as a number of areas across Quebec.

Residents in all of these places shouldn't bother packing away snow boots, raincoats, hats or scarves.

According to the weather notice, March will be a month of regular snow flurries, fluctuating temperatures, and a significant amount of downpour.

While things will start to pick up towards the end of the month, we’ll see out March with yet another blizzard.

Sadly, things aren’t expected to get much better in April.

Although there’s a few sunny days in there to keep us sane, there’s a snowfall expected between April 18 and April 24, which is bad news for anybody who’s sick of shovelling their driveway.

While there's very little rain expected during April, up to 30mm less than usual, temperatures in the region are certainly not idyllic.

Conditions will hover around the -5.5 C mark throughout March, which is colder than usual, and we can expect temperatures of around 4 C towards the end of April.

While that's also colder than average, 4 C sounds positively tropical at this point!

Despite all of the bad news, Daylight Savings will begin this weekend, which will at least give us some additional light in the evening.

While the summer still feels like a lifetime away, stay strong Ottawa! We'll get there eventually.
