You'll See A Bunch Of Brave Skaters In Underwear In Toronto This Sunday

Rather them than us!

Take a dip right into skating. If you're brave enough, that is. The second annual The Bentway Polar Bear Skate Toronto is gliding back into the 6ix on December 29, 2019. This event is free to attend and all you need to bring are some skates and the bold willingness to strip down into something a little more revealing.

Last year saw the very first underpants skate at the Bentway under the city's Gardiner Expressway. The premiere edition was popular, and it's back again to close out 2019.

The first 100 participants registering online will receive some free hot chocolate to keep them warm while they venture into the cold December weather.

And that might be valuable, to be honest, given that the real-feel in Toronto on Sunday is set to be 0 Celsius.

That may not be as daunting as the temperatures and conditions we've seen in the city recently, but warm enough to be willing to ditch your clothes? Not sure about that.

But, for those people who do want to take part, sign-ins and registrations begin at 1 p.m. on the Sunday.

Participants are asked to leave their valuables at home or have someone look after them during the skate. According to the website, you must sign a waiver before you take part in the event.

Lockers are available but are limited.

Once you're done skating, warm drinks will be available at their Corona Après Patio for participants to enjoy. You'll probably want one by that point, we imagine.

The good news for interested part-time skaters is that if you don't happen to have any skates, you're able to rent them out on site.

There will also be a donation bin provided by Project Comfort for gently used or new winter gear for those who really need it.

The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., right under the Gardiner Expressway.

These aren't the only bare legs you'll see in Toronto over the next few weeks, though. A similar event will see commuters go pantless as they take a ride on the TTC.

So just be prepared to see some unusual winter activity.

Whether you want to carry on skating as you normally do — presumably, fully covered — or go right down to your intimates, this is the way to end 2019 with a bang.
