Police Investigate Double Homicide Of Two Canadians Who Were Found Dead In Florida

Broward County Sheriff's Office is treating the Canadian couple's case as a double homicide.

This past Friday evening, police found a Canadian couple dead inside their mobile home in Flordia. The couple,  Marc Gagne, 80, and Rita Fortin, 78,  were from Saint-Côme-Linière Quebec. The case is being treated as a double homicide by authorities.

The couple's bodies were found by neighbours who became worried when they hadn't seen the couple for a few days. When one of the neighbours went to go check on them to ensure that everything was okay, they discovered that the door was unlocked and two bodies were inside.

Emergency services were called immediately and the Broward County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Police are not stating if there any suspects at the moment, but are treating the case as a double homicide.

Gange and Fortin had lived in the Pompano Beach neighbourhood for almost four decades before their death. It is a community of around 110,000 and has a variety of both French and English Canadians retirees living there.

Neighbours recalled to CBC that the couple was trying to sell their mobile home after the recent death of their daughter, who lived back in their Quebec hometown. She passed away in this past February.

Neighbours also state that the couple was well-liked and to them, no motivation behind a double homicide is clear. Those who live next door to the couple also recall that the mobile park is always quiet and they did not hear any noise come from the home, even though they were right next door.

Global Affairs said in a statement to CTV, “Our thoughts and sympathies are with the loved ones of the Canadian citizens who were found dead in Florida. Canadian consular officials in Miami are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information,”
