Portugal Made It Illegal For Your Boss To Call You After Work & We Need This Everywhere

Give us this and a 4-day workweek and we'll be happy!

You don't want to deal with work when you're not working — and now there's a law for that.

Portugal just made it illegal for bosses to call their employees outside work hours, and we already want to see more of these laws passed around the world.

The law makes it illegal for an employer to call, text or even email an employee outside scheduled hours, BBC reports.

It was designed so that bosses will "respect the privacy of the worker" and give them space to rest and spend time with loved ones, according to CNN. Bosses who bother their staff after work can be fined under the new law.

Portugal passed the law along with a bunch of other measures meant to make it easier to work remotely there, either as a citizen or as a digital nomad. Those other laws pressure employers to make work-from-home easier and to compensate employees for gas and electricity costs.

France rolled out a lighter version of this law in 2017, when the country gave some employees the right ignore work emails that come in after 6 p.m.

Now we just need this everywhere else!
