Princess Cruises Has A New COVID-19 Cancellation Policy As 235 Canadians Are Stuck At Sea

You can cancel your upcoming cruises.

If you're concerned about travelling, one cruise line wants to make it easier for you to decide what to do. Princess Cruises cancellation policy has been revised because of COVID-19 as 235 Canadians are stuck on one of its ships. You can cancel upcoming trips and even get credits.

On March 6, Princess Cruises updated its cancellation policy to allow for cancellations on trips with departure dates through to May 31.

The cruise line said the revisions were made because of how the COVID-19 situation is evolving around the world and to help guests make decisions about their upcoming cruises.

For trips departing on or before April 3, you can cancel up to 72 hours before the ship sets sail to get a future cruise credit for 100% of the cancellation fees.

If you have a trip booked that's departing between April 4 and May 31, you can cancel by March 31 to get a credit for 100% of the cancellation fees.

For trips setting sail between June 1 and June 30, the final payment moves up to 60 days before departure from 90 days.

These changes come as 235 Canadians are stuck onboard the Grand Princess off the coast of California and waiting to see if any passengers or crew test positive for the virus.

Global Affairs Canada told Narcity that they're aware previous passengers on the Grand Princess ship tested positive for the virus and are in contact with the cruise line and local authorities.

On March 5, the U.S. Coast Guard delivered testing kits that were then taken back off the ship for testing in California.

According to Princess Cruises, there are currently 2,422 passengers on board the ship and 1,111 employees.

A man in his 60s from Ontario who was on the Grand Princess from February 11 to February 21 has tested positive for COVID-19.

An American man who died was likely exposed to the virus on the ship between those same dates.

This isn't the first time a Princess Cruises ship has been affected.

Back on February 21, 129 Canadians arrived in the country after being evacuated from the Diamond Princess in Japan after an outbreak onboard.

The cruise line makes a number of Canadian stops on both their California & Pacific Coast and Canada & New England trips. These include Vancouver and Quebec City, Sydney, Charlottetown, Halifax and St. John's.
