The RCMP Welcomed Some Baby Horses Into The Family & They're So Adorable (PHOTOS)

There's also a contest to name them.

The mounties welcomed some new members to their family. New RCMP horses were born this year, and they're already up and running around. There will even be a contest to name some of them.

From March 15 to April 13, the police service welcomed five new foals into the world. The majority of them were black colts, with one black filly and another chestnut one.

The foals were born at the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.

The brand new babies were born to RCMP horses De Garance, Merlot, Henrika, Sneak Preview, and Holly. Another five foals are expected to arrive a little later this year.

These special black horses have been bred and raised by the police force since 1939, and are considered some of the finest in all of Canada.

Some of the animals might grow up to be included in the Musical Ride, an RCMP tradition where mounted officers ride in formation to music.

The team of officers that performs these rides raises money for local charities and non-profit organizations.

Several of the foals born this year will be named through a nationwide contest. Kids 14 and under can take part until April 30, and all name suggestions must start with an 'S.'

The RCMP provided Narcity with photos of one of the new foals in an email.

"This is Holly and her little VERY BLACK filly. This beautiful little girl was born April 12, 2020," writes Karen Ryan, A/Farm manager, RCMP Breeding Farm. "Holly is a special mom and close to all our hearts as she was herself born here at the RCMP farm."

Ryan wrote that the new foal is a little bit shy, but just like her mom, she enjoys a good back scratch.

"The first time we turned her outside on one of the warmer days, she was like a spark plug and entertained us with her racing around mom and trotting along in perfect unison."

The Mounties are already known for having some of the cutest puppies on its force, and now it can add these adorable new horses to the team as well.
