Ron DeSantis Has A Tax Relief Plan For Florida & Here's What You Can Save Money On This Year

It's family-focused but single individuals can save money, too.

Floridians can save so much money this year if Governor Ron DeSantis' tax relief plan moves forward. His camp calls this proposal the "largest" one the state has seen and $2 billion are going into it.

The political leader was in Ocala, FL to address his intentions, which are family-focused. However, there are benefits for single individuals, too. The plan would exempt a year of sales tax for specific items that aren't just products for baby and toddler necessities.

According to the Governor's press release, "the average Florida family could save up to $1,000 a year under this plan."

There is a year of exemption for household items under $25, pet food, oral hygiene products (including toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash), medicinal cosmetics and toiletries included.

Aside from one year of tax-exempt pet food, he has a permanent exemption listed for pet medications that are over-the-counter.

DeSantis didn't forget about entrepreneurs, either. The Governor hopes to move forward with a permanent increase in savings for electronic filings for small businesses.

One thing already in motion, which was implemented on January 1, is a toll relief program that saves money for motorists on the roadways. It provides "frequent commuters with 35 or more toll transactions per month with a 50% credit to their account...and is expected to save the average commuter nearly $480 over the year," DeSantis' website reads.

Last year, the Florida politician made a tax-free summer for certain recreational products, activities and entertainment events, like concerts. He hopes to have this again for 2023-2024.

From 2022-2023, there were also tax-cut holidays for certain items, like school supplies, which he hopes to re-establish this year.

Families will have the most benefit from the intended fiscal savings. Aside from all the individual spends, they would get permanent tax-exempt for baby and toddler necessities, which include diapers, clothes, shoes, wipes, cribs and strollers.

The governor hopes to implement a year of tax-free children's books under the age of 17, as well as children's athletic equipment.

Lastly, he added a permanent exemption on gas stoves.

This plan is nearly one billion dollars over the plan he proposed back in September 2022.
