Conservative MPPs Pledge To Put A Stop To Abortions And Ontarians Are Furious

21 year-old MPP Sam Oosterhoff spoke out about being pro-life.

Earlier today, three members of Doug Ford's caucus attended an anti-abortion rally in Toronto to speak up about how abortion should be 'unthinkable'. Niagra West MPP Sam Oosterhoff, Scarborough Centre MPP Christina Mitas, and Brantford-Brant MPP Will Bouma all stood together on stage during the rally as they spoke against the rights women should have to get an abortion. They argued that they were pro-life and that abortion shouldn't be legal throughout Ontario.

According to CBC News, Sam Oosterhoff, 21, stood on stage in front of a crowd of anti-abortion protestors in Queen's Park and spoke with them about abortion rights in Ontario. He stated that "We have survived 50 years of abortion in Canada and we pledge to fight to make abortion unthinkable in our lifetime."

He also told CBC News that he has no problem in bringing the anti-abortion issue up at the provincial legislature to ensure that our province is "respecting life no matter how small a child is."

After his speech, Oosterhoff thanked the audience for attending the rally stating that they believed in the "rights of children."

After the Conservative MPP's have pledged to put a stop to legal abortions earlier this morning, Ford gathered his caucus for a meeting to discuss abortion in Ontario before his office released a statement. According to CP24,  Ford's office stated that his provincial government will not re-open the abortion debate.

Since the incident, NDP leader Andrea Horwath has also released a statement. She says that she is horrified with the events that took place at this rally today and that Doug Ford's statement didn't go far enough. She states, "We are horrified that Doug Ford continues to refuse to denounce his MPP's dangerous, anti-choice and anti-women position,".

Of course, a lot of Ontarians seem to agree with Horwath and many have reached out through Twitter to express their anger over the anti-abortion rally that took place. Many were concerned that the lead speaker of this rally, Sam Oosterhoff, was a man who was speaking on behalf of women's rights.

While Ford has stated that the government will not revisit the abortion debate, he has made it clear in previous encounters that he is pro-life. According to CP24, Ford told the anti-abortion website 'Right Now' that he was pro-life, but has stated that Canadians have the rights to make their own decisions.
