“Schitt’s Creek” Isn’t Catherine O’Hara & Eugene Levy’s First Collaboration Or Their Last

Their first movie together was in 1985!

You know them as the hilarious parents on the TV sitcom, but the Canadian duo's first time on-screen dates back to the mid-70s. Since then they've starred in quite a few movies together and Schitt's Creek Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara's friendship goes back over 40 years.

They might have you convinced that they're married in real life, but the two actually have their own separate and long term relationships.

Toronto born O'Hara is 65-years-old and has been married to American TV and movie director Bo Welch since 1992. They share two sons named Luke and Matthew.

Levy's family followed his footsteps in the acting industry since his Schitt's Creek co-stars who play David and Twyla are actually his son and daughter, Dan and Sarah. The 73-year-old from Hamilton has been married since 1977 to Deborah Divine, a screenwriter and producer.

Both actors entered the entertainment industry in the early 70s with Levy's film role in Foxy Lady in 1971, and O'Hara was in a 1975 episode of Wayne and Shuster.

The two first shared the screen on SCTV in 1976. The sketch comedy show went until 1981, then was renamed SCTV Network and ran until 1983, and was again renamed SCTV Channel that ended in 1984. Levy was a main cast member while O'Hara appeared in the bulk of the episodes.

Right after that, they starred in The Last Polka in 1985 alongside famous fellow Canadians John Candy and Rick Moranis.

Then came the 1996 movie Waiting for Guffman, which Levy starred in and wrote for.

Their most notable films together include Best in Show from 2000, A Mighty Wind in 2003, and For Your Consideration from 2006.

You know Levy from his role as co-creator, executive producer, and a writer for Schitt's Creek with his son. But he also served as a writer on the previous four movies mentioned alongside Christopher Guest who was a director and writer.

In 2006, the two lent their voices to Over the Hedge where they voiced Lou (Levy) and Penny (O'Hara).

Before that, they voiced a 2001 cartoon sitcom called Committed opposite other Canadians like Charlotte Arnold, Dave Foley, and Linda Kash.

The last time we'll see Johnny and Moira Rose together will be in the series finale coming in April. But luckily according to IMDb, the two have another item in the works.

An animated short called The Beast, Heroes of the Wildfire is currently filming and will star O'Hara as Mayor Owl and Levy as Fire Chief Ducky.

The Schitt's Creek Twitter account shared a video posted by CBC from 1979 where the two Canadians discussed if they "ever imagined they'd still be working together 40 years later". Hold on to your giggles because the style back then was totally different from today.

We'll leave you with this hilarious clip from Best in Show.
