Snow Could Be Coming To Ontario This Week According To A New Weather Warning
Just two short days in, it has already been a pretty strange start to the October weather in Ontario. The first day of the month brought unusually high temperatures to parts of the province, while southern areas faced fierce thunderstorms, heavy rain and considerable hail. Now, things are about to get even weirder, as some weather experts are predicting that there could be snow in Ontario by the end of the week. Yikes!
Only days after southern Ontario experienced record-breaking October temperatures of 30 degrees, experts at The Weather Network are now predicting potential snowfall in some parts of the province by the end of the week, with Environment Canada also releasing several frost advisories.
The Weather Network's latest Ontario weather report explains that the province's temperatures are expected to tumble by Wednesday afternoon, as a cold front sweeps away the last of the warm weather.
A ‘weak system’ is expected to bring showers across the Great Lakes by Thursday, with the potential for wet snow across central Ontario and the northern parts of cottage country. In Quebec, light snow is also possible into the Laurentians and into the higher elevations of the Eastern Townships.
Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham explains, "Many areas will likely see the end to the growing season through Thursday and Friday night as we will have a widespread frost outside of urban/suburban areas."
While the clouds are expected to clear up in Ontario by the weekend, the sunshine won’t be strong enough to lift the temperatures. On Saturday, daytime high temperatures are unlikely to even reach the mid-teens, as below-average conditions continue into the start of next week.
In the mean time, Environment Canada has issued several frost advisories to southern parts of Ontario, including Ottawa North and South. The alerts note that below-freezing temperatures are expected overnight, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops.
If you’re in Ontario this week, don’t forget to wrap up warm and carry your umbrella, sunhat and ski-jacket! You just never know which one you might need.
