Canada's Culture Minister touts commercial deals with creative sector in China
Miller returns from culture trade mission to China

Culture Minister Mark Miller has returned from a five-day trip to China that aimed to deepen cultural ties between the two countries.
Miller travelled to Shanghai, Shenzhen and Suzhou this month with dozens of representatives from Canadian creative industries.
His office says seven new commercial agreements worth more than $4.2 million were signed during the trip.
Almost 50 representatives from 36 Canadian companies and organizations took part, most of them from the interactive digital media industry.
A government news release says Miller met with his Chinese counterpart Sun Yeli and the pair discussed ways to build commercial partnerships and create jobs in the cultural sector.
In Beijing earlier this year, Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined steps to build a new strategic partnership with China, including more cultural exchanges and "people-to-people" ties.

Yes, you can still get your favourite summer produce long after the season ends — here's how
Winter, who?
Courtesy of President's Choice
The arrival of sweater weather sadly means saying bye to one of the best parts of summer — the bountiful farmers markets, filled with fresh, locally grown produce.
But just because the patios have been packed away and you're digging out your boots, it doesn't mean you have to give up on iconic summery fruits and veggies like vine-ripened tomatoes, juicy strawberries and crisp lettuce.
You're familiar with President's Choice (PC) — the in-house grocery brand you see in stores under the Loblaw umbrella. Well, they have been working with greenhouse growers to stock your local grocery store with the taste of summer all year round.
And Canadians seem to be pretty into it. According to Mintel, 77% of Canadian consumers agree that growing produce in climate-controlled greenhouses in Canada is a good idea (Source: Mintel Reports Canada, Fruits and Vegetables, 2026).

Protected from the weather and with the light, water and temperature dialled in just right, PC's greenhouse-grown Mixiany Cherry Tomatoes On The Vine are produced using a vine-ripening technique that allows the plant to fully nourish the tomato before they are picked — resulting in an enhanced aroma, rich flavour and often sweeter taste.
Whether you're tossing them in a salad, roasting them or snacking on them one by one and enjoying that crisp "pop," they're plump little bites of summer that you can get all year round, thanks to the near-perfect growing conditions inside the greenhouse.

Likewise, PC's greenhouse-grown strawberries (grown in Canada, including Leamington, ON, aka "the greenhouse capital of North America") grow up sweet and juicy, well outside their usual growing season, so you can still enjoy them on your French toast while the snow tumbles past your window.

Then, there are multiple varieties of lettuce that you can pick up, crisp and leafy, just like the ones at the farmers market in mid-July. And because the Live Lettuce Trio is sold with their roots still attached, it helps to maximize the flavour, maintain freshness, and prolong shelf life.
The whole reason this is possible is the combination of expertise and modern agricultural innovation across North America. By growing produce year-round in protected greenhouse environments, PC and the growers they work with can offer the quality and consistency people are looking for in their fresh produce.

It also means that you can continue to support growers even when the traditional growing season wraps up and the farmers markets wind down.
So, the next time you're bundled up against the cold and craving something that tastes a little more like patio season, you might not have to look as far as you think thanks to PC's greenhouse-grown produce.

QuickQuotes: Leaders react to Alberta referendum results to remain in Canada
QuickQuotes: Canadian leaders react to referendum
THE CANADIAN PRESS/Jeff McIntosh
Albertans voted overwhelmingly to stay in Canada on Monday in a historic referendum vote.
In early returns, about three in four Albertans said yes to Confederation, while about one in four said they wanted the province to hold a second, binding referendum on leaving.
The separation question was one of 10 put to Albertans. The other nine focused on immigration and the Constitution.
Here's what some Canadian leaders are saying.
—
"Thank you, Alberta! I’m very pleased to see the initial results from Elections Alberta show widespread support for remaining in Canada. Albertans have voted for a stronger Alberta in a united Canada.
"Thank you to all Albertans who took time to vote on these critically important referendum questions."
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith
—
"It's a great day for Canada … I'm thrilled that Albertans have chosen unity. They've chosen to build together. They've chosen to continue to take care of each other, to move forward together with purpose, high ambition.
"I'd like to thank all of the volunteers who supported the election, of course those who campaigned on all sides, the electoral volunteers who were still counting some of the votes, above all, Albertans for turning out in numbers, participating in the democratic process."
Prime Minister Mark Carney
—
"At a time when our country is under threat and when we need to come together as Canadians, this result represents a clear rejection of the politics of division.
"Well over one million Albertans came together to give us something all too rare these days: a moment of hope.
"We know things are tough in Alberta, from health care to the cost of living, to the embattled education system and so much more … But as so many Albertans have shown us, we don't fix our problems by turning on each other."
NDP Leader Avi Lewis
—
"Canada is stronger with Alberta as part of it, and last night’s results show the overwhelming majority of Albertans agree with this. Many Nova Scotians have strong ties to Alberta, either having worked there or with friends and family going to their province to help build up their industry.
"Here in Nova Scotia, we’ll keep doing our part to develop our own natural resources, create opportunities and contribute to a stronger Canada."
Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston
