Texas Sees Highest COVID-19 Single-Day Spike In New Cases Yet With Over 2500
The world is everchanging, with a new conflict seemingly arising as each day passes. Many U.S. states have been tackling the pandemic in unique ways, with Texas at the forefront of initiating reopening plans. Though things are reopening at a rapid pace, Texas COVID-19 cases continue to rise and fall at unpredictable rates, with the biggest spike yet hitting the state just yesterday, June 10, 2020.
Some officials say the large increase in cases could be related to the increase in state testing, rather than a sudden spread of the novel coronavirus.
Just yesterday, the state witnessed its highest increase of COVID-19 cases ever, with 2,504 confirmed.
The day before, on June 9, locals saw 1,637 new cases. June 2 to June 6 all saw numbers over 1,600 each day, before a drop for two days, then a return to the near 2,000 numbers on the 9.
The Texas Department of State Health Services, TxDSHS, and the Texas Health and Human Services, THHS, provide the public with an interactive COVID-19 tracking map which shows the rising and falling trends across the state.
The online feature also reveals case numbers by region, city, demographic, and more, along with showing the statistics on deaths and recoveries across Texas.
As of June 10, there have been 1,348,893 tests administered across the state. 79,757 analyses have turned up positive.
There have been an estimated 52,449 recoveries and 1,885 fatalities over the course of the pandemic.
As of yesterday, there are 25,423 total cases currently active in Texas.
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins has been sharing insights on COVID-19 trends in his city on Twitter. He posted yesterday about the new rise in numbers in his community.
He announced that "today we saw our highest case count thus far, reaching 300 for the first time with new cases." Though concerning, he reminded locals that "we have more testing capacity..."
Jenkins carried on his informational thread with a comment about the high number of hospitalizations in DFW. He shared that "in Dallas County, we’ve gone from 321 hospitalizations for #COVID19 two days ago to 372 hospitalizations today."
He reminded locals to "avoid crowds, keep a six-foot distance from people outside your family, wear a cloth face covering when on public transportation and at businesses and use good hygiene."
