The Canadian Government Just Gave Justin Trudeau's Nanny A Raise, Here's How Much She's Making Now
The Government of Canada just approved a pay raise for the nanny who cares for Justin Trudeau's kids. Marian Pueyo has been the Trudeau family's nanny for years. Her last raise was granted in 2015, when Trudeau took office.
Compared to the hourly wage she used to make, Pueyo has been approved for a full-time salary. According to the National Post, her new salary is based on the average 40-hour work week. Her salary has been set in a range that starts from just below $40,000 to slightly over $45,000.
Based on her new salary range, the highest hourly wage that Pueyo can make is $21.79. In November 2015, her wage was set at $15 to $20 an hour, and $11 to $13 an hour on night shifts.
The Prime Minister's spokesperson told the media that Pueyo's new salary was determined based on the "cost of living increase" in Canada. The National Post reports that other members of Justin Trudeau's staff were also given a pay increase, including his chef Che Chartrand. Chartand's salary now ranges from $68,468 to $79,234.
According to PayScale, nannies in Canada earn an average wage of $14.49 per hour. Typical pay ranges anywhere from $10.95 to $18.17. Annually, that could mean anywhere from $21,000 to $35,5000. Based on these numbers, Pueyo's salary is only slightly above the industry average.
Back in 2015, Trudeau actually had two nannies caring for his three children. He fired one of the two nannies less than a year after he took office, after facing criticism for spending taxpayer dollars on two nannies.
