The Federal Government Is Going To Spend $500 Million To Improve Toronto Transit

Mo' money...less problems!

Raise your hand if you love public transit!  **crickets**

It's true, Toronto's transit system leaves quiet a bit to be desired but with plans to invest a cool $500 million into new transit infrastructure, that could all change.

Today, in Barrie, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne, announced that the federal government would be investing $1.49 billion into new transit initiatives with money going to everything from new transit vehicles to upgraded stations. This is part of a 10-year $60-billion infrastructure funding plan for all of Canada.

The money will cover $688 million worth of projects in five Ontario cities lined up to be the first recipients of the dedicated transit funding. And guess who gets a majority of it? Toronto. ;)

About $500 million of the projects announced this morning will be in Toronto, with Ottawa next receiving $156 million. The money will go toward fixing bridges, a subway yard upgrade and upgrades to busses and streetcars.

Do you think these upgrades will make transit more bearable for the every-day Toronto commuter?
