Tests earlier this summer have identified key areas in Toronto where virus-carrying mosquitoes are present. Toronto Public Health officials urge citizens to wear clothing that covers exposed areas of skin, and to also use mosquito repellant when venturing outdoors. Stagnant water, which is a place of breeding for mosquitoes, should also be removed and avoided.
West Nile can lead to death as it can cause inflamed brain tissue (encephalitis) as well as other symptoms like fever, stiff muscles, migraines, and weakness.
