'The Handmaid's Tale' Is Filming In Downtown Toronto Today
Praise be, the handmaids are back on set in the 6ix today. At 7:00 AM Thursday morning, they were spotted in the city hall area by City of Toronto's Chief Communications Officer, Brad Ross. "No sign of the commander", he wrote on Twitter this morning, along with a photo of about eight handmaids, donning their unmistakable red cloaks and white bonnets.
The sighting is one of the first in downtown Toronto in 2019 so far. Filming for the latest season of The Handmaids Tale has been underway for some time now in Ontario. Their two main filming destinations are Toronto and Hamilton, as Hamilton's the location of the Waterford house where many scenes were shot in the previous seasons.

Production officially began in Hamilton in late October 2018. Since then, people have spotted handmaids all over the place, from U of T's Robarts Library to Front Street outside of Union Station.
It's not unusual for The Handmaids Tale to spend a full day filming at Toronto's Nathan Philips Square, as it is the setting of downtown Gilead, the name of the dystopian society where much of the show takes place.

Not only does Toronto double as Gilead in the show, but Toronto also plays itself in The Handmaids Tale as the safe haven where Americans and escapees go to get away from the terror of Gilead. Which, considering the amount of Americans that have moved to Canada since Trump was elected, kind of seems to parallel reality?
