14 Of The Craziest Calls BC Police Received In 2018

Police in BC received the most bizarre calls last year.

Police work isn’t always about tragic 9-1-1 calls and people in distress. Sometimes the calls police get are lighthearted and hilariously bizarre. In 2018, police officers in BC had to respond to some seriously crazy calls. Thank goodness they were posted about on Twitter otherwise we wouldn’t have believed them!

ScanBC is a twitter account that scans police radio in BC. Throughout the day, the Twitter account holders actively tweet out what they are hearing on the scanners. A lot of the time it has to do with people in distress, but every once in a while it’s something so ridiculous it’s almost hard to believe. Apparently, 2018 was one bizarre year.

We went though ScanBC’s Twitter account over the past year and found all the best tweets so you don’t have to! There are some seriously crazy ones. I guess people really do call the cops for anything.

Every tweet is accompanied by a hashtag of the location where the event occurred. Surrey had a number of really funny calls come in in 2018. One tweet, in particular, that gained a lot of attention was about a parent calling 9-1-1 on her own child.

Apparently, the child was having such bad temper tantrum that the parent needed help. According to the tweet, the child was throwing and smashing things in the house because the parents bought something for the younger sibling and not for him. Drama!

Another funny one from Surrey was about a man banging on the door of a house yelling for vodka. At least he knew what he wanted.

Victoria is also up there with receiving a large number of ridiculous calls. One time, Victoria Police were called because a woman was throwing her laundry around in the middle of the road. Another time on a separate occasion, a female was reportedly rolling around on the ground naked making cat noises in public.

Not all the calls police get are ridiculous. Sometimes they are a misunderstanding. Back in May, the Sooke RCMP received a call by mistake after a cat walked across the phone and dialled 9-1-1. Maybe it was a mistake or maybe he needed help catching that pesky red dot!
