The Weeknd Wants To Help Young Canadians Launch Their Careers, Here's How You Can Be One Of Them
The Weeknd is paying it back to his hometown in a big way right now. As a way of giving back, the Toronto born R&B singer is now looking to mentor other Canadian artists as a boost to the city's arts and culture scene.
The Weeknd has launched a new creative incubator with Hxouse and a program called "No More Dreams" and he's inviting Canadians to apply for it.
The program is in partnership with George Brown College, an arts-based school in Toronto. It's designed to help people who already have an idea for a creative project and turn it into a reality. They can also earn some college credits for it, thanks to the educational component.
Applications for the program are now open and close on August 28. The only catch is that you have to be from Toronto or the GTA in order to apply since it is all about fostering local talent.
In order to submit your application, you have to provide a complete portfolio, upload an artistic submission, and also must become a member of Artscape Daniels Launchpad which is an art facility and event center in Toronto which will house the program.
The program is also designed with scholarships to help low-income students and make sure there is an equal opportunity for everyone.
The Weeknd has partnered with his high school friend La Mar Taylor, who is one of the co-founders of Hxouse. He has worked with The Weeknd and Drake on some of their previous albums.
