This Canadian Phone Company Is Secretly Charging Users Extra Monthly Fees And People Are Pissed
The relationship between Canadian cell phone providers and their customers has not been the smoothest one, to say the least. Considering the whole country, there are a number of providers, which means that they are often up to date. Ultimately it's all about a lack of competition that could lead to more customers.
One Reddit user shared their personal experience in a conversation that can happen to you. That experience for this user included extra charges that they were never notified about.
The user in specific, Candelalgebra , mentioned their current plan with Telus on the Reddit platform, and how without warning an extra $10 fee had appeared on their bill. Not only that, they noticed that they were getting the extra fee every month!
The user had a pay and talk plan that other Reddit users have mentioned in the thread has recently changed.
The user also mentioned in his post that while Telus claimed he would have gotten an email about the bill when he called the customer service about the issue, that was not the reality. In fact, it was another Redditer, who actually got the email, who provided some clarity after they shared the contents of the email that he should have gotten in the first place.
The email noted that the extra $10 a month charge would apply to Telus customers who were under the 2 or 1-year plan and were now on a month to month contract. The only way to get the charge to go away would be to sign up for another contract.
While some users have been upset with the change, it has been noted by another user that "[your previous contract] is not a guarantee. In fact, in most contracts, there's usually an agreement in your original contract that [companies] can change [your plan] without notice. "

If you're a Telus user, you may want to take a look at your bill before paying it to make sure there aren't any extra charges showing up. Considering that Candelalgebra was given no notice, it 's possible other users did not get the email notification either.
Considering the current state of Canadian phone plans we're starting to think it's a better idea to just buy a cheap phone from France plane like other Canadians-have as of recently!
