So far the cold air has hit Alberta with low temperatures, right now from Calgary up to Fort McMurray it's only 3°C and it's not expected to go up anytime soon.

In fact, the weather is supposed to stay close to 0°C - the perfect temperature for snow to fall.

Some parts of Alberta already saw some snow coming down last night and there's more on the way. The heaviest hit areas will be in the Rockies and the Foothills, spreading all the way through to southern Alberta.

The city that's going to have the worst accumulation of snow is Pincher Creek, south of Calgary. They are expecting to get upwards of 20 centimetres of snow this weekend and could continue to see snowfall until Wednesday.

For the long-range forecasts, the Weather Network is predicting that Alberta is going to swing between wet and dry temperatures for the rest of the fall season, meaning this first big snowfall will not likely be the last.
