Everything We Know About Tim Hortons Timbits Cereal: An Investigation

Rumour has it there are 2 different flavours.

This week, an image of a Timbits cereal box began hitting the rounds of the internet and we were shook. The image has been circulating on social media for a while now, but does this cereal actually exist and how can we get our hands on it?

Narcity reached out to two people who claimed to be in possession of the cereal. Both of them declined to identify their sources — adding that the Timbits breakfast product was being carefully guarded.

The rumours first started way back on October 4 when Twitter user Rob Turudic shared a photo of a Tim Hortons cereal box and said: "This is happening, folks." According to Twitter, the photo was shared from Burlington, Ontario.

Turudic told Narcity that he doesn't have a lot of information about the new cereal but was told that "it should be out in the New Year. There will be 2 flavour options. Birthday cake Timbit & chocolate glazed."

We also asked Turudic if he had the chance to taste the treasure, and alas, he said he had not.

The cereal box provides a few more clues, however. In the photo accompanying the tweet, a cereal box is designed to look like a box of Timbits.

On it, three birthday cake Timbits are leaping into a bowl of cereal.

The cereal in the photo looks similar to that iconic Nesquick cereal of your childhood, but instead, the little round balls are light coloured with rainbow sprinkles in them.

On top of that, the box also has writing on it in French. It says "Birthday Cake flavoured cereal" and in the bottom corner explains that the product has been enlarged to show texture.

While this isn't ground-breaking info, the fact that the box is in French could prove that this product is specifically made for Canada since our food has bilingual labels.

Aside from the Tim Hortons logo on the box, the Timbits cereal box in the photo seems to be made by Post.

The popular cereal company makes a number of other breakfast cereal brands like Shreddies, Oreo-Os, Sugar Crisp, Honey Bunches of Oats, AlphaBits, Weetabix, and Raisin Bran.

Another photo of the Timbits cereal was shared by a cereal blog called Cerealously run by the self-described "cereal addict" Dan Goubert. According to the website, the cereal was spotted in Canada.

"Ooh, this one hits me hard. Hard as a quarter-empty 50-pack of Timbits left behind at an executive meeting that was later scavenged and greedily gobbled by me like a feral Pac-Man," Goubert wrote, before recounting many more fond memories of the desserts.

"Waka waka waka, and yada yada yada: the point is that Canada is getting exclusive Timbits Cereals to celebrate what may arguably be the northwest hemisphere’s most beloved doughnut holes."

When Narcity reached out to Cerealously, Goubert said that the photo came from a Kellogg's vendor but they couldn't provide any additional information on the cereal or when it would be available.

Goubert said he would not reveal their source either, saying they "know the person personally and have agreed to keep them anonymous for job security’s sake."

While the photo shared by Turudic only shows the Birthday Cake Timbits cereal, the photo from Cerealously also shows a second flavour — Chocolate Glazed.

Narcity reached out to Tim Hortons multiple times to confirm the rumours about whether the Timbits cereal will actually be coming to Canada and when it will be available.

A representative for the company responded after publication to say that "Tim Hortons is always looking into new products that may offer more choice to Canadians, however we have nothing more to share at this time." They did not elaborate on a timeline and declined to confirm if the boxes were authentic.

And so the question remains: Is Timbits cereal a hoax or is this the most cloak and dagger cereal reveal of all time?
