Randy Carlyle, who's been serving as coach for the Leafs since March 2012, has just been fired from his position. The Leafs are currently fourth in the Atlantic division with 45 points. They are one point ahead of the Boston Bruins for the second Eastern Conference wild-card berth in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
In his time as coach, Carlyle has led the team to 91 losses, 78 wins, and 19 draws. GM David Nonis has released a statement explaining the new structural change, stating, "Our team was not trending in the right direction and we felt an immediate change was necessary.” No further explanation has been given, although some suspect that PR work is at play.
