Car Crashes Into Toronto Elementary School Playground On Monday Morning (PHOTOS)
Thank goodness for good timing. A car crashed into a playground at a Toronto school on Monday morning and it seems a tragedy was narrowly avoided. This particular school has a daycare so children were still at the school despite it being the summer holidays, but thankfully, none were outside when the Toronto school car crash happened.
Toronto Police confirmed to Narcity that the incident happened at 9:10 a.m. with a single vehicle going through a fence and into the playground area at King Edward Public School near Bathurst and College streets. Nobody was injured, including the driver of the SUV, and the vehicle had to be towed away from the scene.
Steven Webber, who lives across the street from the school, was there for the aftermath of the accident and he told Narcity that ambulance, fire, and police showed up at the scene. The sirens were what alerted him about the crash.
"My sense is people were stunned and couldn't believe what just happened," said Webber.

Indeed, the reaction on social media largely revolved around relief and gratitude that no young kids found themselves in the firing line.
Webber echoed those sentiments.
"It's very frustrating because it happened in a location where we assume children are safe," he said.
As evident in the photo, part of the playground structure has been warped by the car hitting it. It brutally illustrates how different this crash would have been, and how tragic the consequences would have been, if the children at the school had been outside playing.
Though the relief that the crash occured at a quiet time when no children were out is evident, Webber did take a moment to assess the likely conditions that caused the crash.
"[The accident is] not surprising given the way people drive through this neighbourhood," he said. "It's very common to see drivers speeding and rolling through stop signs. Drivers treat stop signs as suggestions, not requirements."
There is no word yet on if or when charges will be laid in relation to the crash.
Toronto Police Constable Scott Mills said the investigation is ongoing.
