Torontonians Allege Uber Drivers Keep Blocking Bike Lanes And They Have Had Enough
Most of us in the city rely on Uber in one way or another. Whether it's using an Uber to get us across the city or to order lunch to your front door on a Sunday, many Torontonians enjoy the service. Yet some Toronto residents are starting to become fed up, claiming that Uber drivers continue to block bike lanes and traffic while on the job.
Parking Enforcement Officer and Bicycle Patrol Officer Erin Urquhart has been keeping Twitter updated on the number of tickets that she has given out to Uber drivers in the downtown core this year, and many Twitter users are appalled by the news.

Two days ago Officer Urquhart showcased a car who pulled into a bike lane. The driver proceeded to drop off his passenger and then continued to block traffic in the bike lane while remaining parked on his phone. The Uber driver was quick to get a $150 ticket due to his illegal idling.
Yet, this hasn't been the only case of bike lane blocking that Urquhart has had to deal with this month. In fact, on March 1st alone, she ended up distributing four separate parking tickets to drivers who were blocking bike lanes between Bloor- St.George-Adelaide, she confirmed that Uber drivers being amongst them.
I heard about 27 excuses from this driver parked like this on Bloor w doing @UberEats and NONE of them were justified..... not only is he diagonally parked encroaching the #bikeTO lane he was half in the traffic lane. Unacceptable. $150 served 🚲 pic.twitter.com/f4xgsGYOcN
Urquhart also responded to an Uber Eats driver this month on Bloor was pulled up to the curb and managed to block the entire bike lane along with half of the traffic lane. After the driver gave multiple excuses as to why they were parked the way they were, they also received a $150 ticket.
Officer Urquhart is reminding drivers that no excuse is a good enough excuse to be parking illegal and that all drivers should be aware of their surroundings and park responsibly.
Yet Twitter users are not happy about the actions of some of these Uber drivers. In Tweets that are replying to Urquhart, many users claim that they are disappointed with the service and that blocking traffic throughout the downtown core is unacceptable.
Some Twitter users are even thanking Urquhart for ensuring that these drivers get ticketed and keeping to roads as traffic free as possible.

Totally unacceptable.
What kind of person parks like that???? Thanks for taking care of the person.
Should’ve just popped his tires. That’d give him a reason to stop! Too harsh? I don’t think so.
They aren't holding back with their criticisms either, with some even stating that Uber is the worst.
Uber everything is the worst!
Let's review.Sidewalks are for things with feet, like people and dogs.Roads are for things with wheels, like cars, trucks and bicycles. And soon, motorcycles. So, bikes belong on roads, not sidewalks. Bike lanes are for .. bikes. Not cars.Capiche?
Seriously ? That's his/her parking job ?
Speaking as a year round bike commuter, Uber eats cyclists are also the worst cyclists out there
According to numbers from May 2018, Uber claimed to have over 800,000 riders in Toronto every month.
