Vancouver Getting Pummelled By Snow Tonight Means Your Commute Could Be Wild

We don't do "snow."

Vancouverites are likely going to wake up to a blanket of snow on Friday, January 10 and you know what that means — your commute is going to be wild. The Vancouver snow forecast is looking grim for those of us heading to class or the office. You might want to rethink your travel plans heading into the weekend.

Vancouver's getting snow for the first time this winter and for the first time in 2020.

In fact, it'll even be colder and snowier here than in Toronto which is quite the reversal. They'll probably all be laughing at us as we try to get to work.

On Thursday, Environment Canada officially released a snowfall warning. It's in effect for all of Metro Vancouver.

Their best-case scenario calls for three to five centimetres of snow followed by up to 20 millimetres of rain.

However, their worst-case scenario is 10 to 25 centimetres of snow followed by little or no rain.

According to TransLink, customers should "plan ahead for potential weather-related delays."

Anyone who's experienced winter in Vancouver knows the kind of delays they're talking about including slippery, icy roads, buses that never seem to arrive, and train station platforms crowded with commuters.

If you think this weekend is going to be bad, the following week in Vancouver looks even colder and snowier. This upcoming storm could actually be the calm before the real storm.

Vancouver's going to have to hold its breath and see what kind of snowfall they get.

BC Ferries posted a warning that they might be cancelling upcoming sailings depending on the weather.

Right now, wind and snow warnings are in effect for much of coastal B.C.

However, the metro Vancouver municipality of Surrey released a bold video showing how they're prepared to handle all the snow that comes their way.
