This Is How Long It’ll Take To Finally Get Warm In Ontario
It looks like Ontarians will have to wait several more weeks to finally see an end to the awful seasonal purgatory where one is continuously bouncing between the winter parka and spring jacket. The Weather Network reported this morning that consistent warm weather is "unlikely for most of Canada" until May. Which leaves us wondering - When will Ontario warm up?
According to the Weather Network, mild spring temperatures likely aren't going to stabilize until May - until then, Ontario will experience a gradual warmup with some above-seasonal warm days thrown in. Thankfully, that means the rest of April won't be entirely unpleasant, in Ontario at least. We're just going to get a mixed bag of pleasant sunny days and miserable rainy days.
This weekend will be a perfect example of what to expect for the rest of April. Saturday is expected to be beautiful, with a double-digit high of 14°C and bright sunny skies. However, Sunday will see a dramatic shift, with temperatures expected to drop back down to a chilly 4°C with a high chance of showers.
So, why won't the weather be warming up until May? It all comes down to a blocking pattern and a dominant jet stream pattern which, according to the Weather Network, will prevent the country from settling into any consistent warming condition until May. According to National Geographic, jet streams are fast-moving currents of air that circulate above the earth. The two major jet streams are the polar-front and the subtropical jet stream.
On the bright side, most of southern Ontario will be spared from the truly nasty weather. The city of Windsor, in particular, has enjoyed highs in the low 20's. Ottawa, however, had had to deal with snowfall until this Tuesday when it finally stopped. See what I mean about a mixed bag?
