An Impaired Driver Was Arrested After Smashing Into Cars At An Ontario Tim Hortons (VIDEO)
A local Tim Hortons had its fair share of action on Sunday night after an impaired driver was spotted in the area. The driver ended up smashing into another car at the coffee chain's drive-thru in the town of Georgina. York Regional Police later released a video of the incident and the footage shows the moments leading to his arrest.
According to York Regional Police, officers responded to a call of an impaired driver on Sunday, April 5.
After questioning the 31-year-old man behind the wheel in the Town of Georgina, he was placed under arrest and charged with impaired driving.
In the footage posted by York Regional Police, officers can be seen approaching the driver in a Tim Hortons' parking lot.
After briefly questioning the suspect on his alcohol levels, they ask him to take a sobriety test.
The driver initially refuses the officer's request before reluctantly taking the test and failing. He was then immediately placed under arrest.
“On Sunday, April 5, 2020, at approximately 9 p.m., York Regional Police received a call to 9-1-1 from a concerned citizen who had spotted a suspected impaired driver in the drive-through line at a coffee shop located at 24266 Woodbine Avenue," read the police statement.
"The caller advised that he had seen the suspect bump into another car in the drive-through. When the driver exited his vehicle to see if there was any damage, he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs,” it continued.
However, this isn't the only impaired driver that police have to deal with over the past week.
Ontario Provincial Police also reported on Twitter on Thursday that they handed out 107 impaired driving charges just last week.
On top of that, the OPP has also warned that there has been an increase in stunt-driving charges over the past month as drivers continue to take advantage of the empty roadways.
Police have reported multiple cases of cars being caught going over 200 km/h.
Back in March, a Toronto driver was found going 213 km/h on Highway 401, which is just as fast as a high-speed train.
