You Can Rent Random People's Pools In Toronto With This Airbnb-Style App Starting This Week

You'll soon be able to swim in your own private pool without breaking the bank in Toronto.

The Labour Day long weekend may be the official end of summer, but that doesn’t mean the heat suddenly stops. In fact, it's so hot in the city today that the city may break a 70-year temperature record.

That’s a bit of an issue for many of us in the city who don’t live near the lake and don’t own our own private pool, but could really use a swim to cool down right about now.

If that sounds like your dilemma, there's some good news. A new service is launching in Ontario this week, which will allow you to rent a completely random strangers pool.

Via Swimply

The service is called Swimply, and we know you’re thinking, "who in their right mind would want to rent the pool of a stranger for the day?" Surprisingly, the answer is lots of people.

Swimply is in nearly 20 States in America and is now travelling across the border for its first ever expansion into Canada. Soon there will be two pools listed on its site in Toronto, the company says.

Swimply is essentially the Airbnb of swimming pools. Much like renting an overnight stay in someone’s home, you'll now be able to rent a stranger's pool and relax in it as if it's your own.

“Swimply allows non-pool owners affordable access to an otherwise inaccessible luxury while allowing pool owners to make an effortless substantial income from their underutilized pool,” the company’s website states.

There are advantages to renting a pool. Firstly, you don't need to share with anyone you don't know, which is always good. Secondly, getting your own pool is too expensive for most of us.

“Owning a pool can be expensive, enjoying one doesn’t have to be,” says Swimply founder Bunim Laskin on the company’s website.

So if you’re still feeling the heat but you don’t own a pool and are tired of having to trek to your nearest public pool, keep an eye out for Toronto listings to appear on Swimply very soon.
