You Can Now Check Grocery Store Line Ups From The Comfort Of Your Home

Game changer! ๐Ÿ™Œ

If there's one thing everyone dreads, it's waiting in line at grocery stores. They're time-consuming, boring, and you have to do it if you want to eat for the rest of the week.

Loblaws, Whole Foods and Metro have allย begun introducing delivery grocery service, and now,ย Google is doing its part too.ย

The search engine is now offering real-time updates on grocery store searches, giving you info onย live visit information, wait times, and typical visit duration so shoppers can avoid storesย long wait times inย checkout lines.ย

The difference between this and Google's already well known feature Popular Times is the live update.ย The information, which appears only when Google has sufficient data, is displayed below the business information in Google Search and Google Map. It's based onย anonymous crowdsourced location dataย to show roughly how long you'll be waiting before you get to checkout.

And the feature extends to restaurant wait times too. No more turning up last minute and having to wait 60 minutes at the bar before a table opens up.ย

Google will now include a pop-up box that appears when you click on a time frame in the popular timesโ€™ chart. The live data is labeled asย โ€œbusy,โ€ โ€œusually busy,โ€ โ€œusually not busy,โ€ etc., along with the wait time and will be supported on nearlyย a million sit-down restaurant listings worldwide, initially in Google Search.

Unfortunately, the new feature doesn't set off alarms when a customer in front of you has a purse-full of nickels or a cart-full of exchanges.ย

So we'll have to wait until Google's next update to see if they can solve that problemย too.
