Keith Urban Called Calgary His "Second Home" And He Can't Stop Performing Here
Grey Cup has finally arrived in Calgary on Sunday, November 24. CFL fans from around the country have flocked to Calgary eager to see the Hamilton Tiger-Cats take on the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. All weekend long the city has been buzzing with excitement. Of course, it's not just the football that has people excited, fans also can't wait to see Keith Urban's Grey Cup 2019 halftime show.
Every year a musical guest takes the stage during halftime at the Grey Cup. In previous years, big names like Fall Out Boy, Shania Twain, and Alessia Cara have graced the stage, and this year, Australian country singer Keith Urban gets to join the list.
Urban is no stranger to the vast prairies of Alberta. Back in 2014, he headlined the Calgary Stampede, and just last week it was announced that he would be one of the many amazing artists performing at Country Thunder in 2020.
Calgary is well known for its country roots, so the decision for Urban to play at McMahon Stadium for the Grey Cup halftime fits perfectly like your favourite pair of cowboy boots.
Whether they're watching from home, or up in the stands, some Canadians on Twitter seem to be quite excited about the upcoming show.
"Gonna watch Keith Urban play the Grey Cup halftime show and that’s all," one user tweeted.
"Because the Grey Cup is in Cowtown, home of the Calgary Stampede, therefore, a country artist is the go-to. And sorry but George Canyon or Paul Brandt just wouldn't really garner the interest of people. Keith Urban is a great choice, and it will be a great show," added another.
Ahead of his show, Urban sat down with The Canadian Press to talk about Canada, the CFL and his love for Calgary.
"Calgary’s got such a huge country fan base. My music certainly transcends a lot of that as well, goes outside of it a bit," Urban said.
"It feels like a second home, it really does, Canada in general, because I started touring here so early in my career."
The Australian country crooner clearly loves Canada, and we love him too.
While locals are excited about seeing Urban perform, it will also be a nice treat for all the Australians in Alberta to get a taste of home.
The Grey Cup kicks off in Calgary at 4 p.m. MST on Sunday, November 24.
You can also see Urban perform live next year by grabbing your tickets for Country Thunder.
